Born in Bakersfield, CA to a modest family of mountain folk, Dylan Montayne and his family soon moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he would be brought up on a wide range of music, such as Alanis Morissette, Creed, and Young Buck. A drummer since infancy, Dylan Montayne soon turned his energy towards rhyming. He describes his career beginnings as such:
“In Santa Fe I learned how to drive trucks, shoot guns, and slay the drums… I also learned how to hide the fact that I was the whitest kid in town by kicking freestyle raps at the back of the school bus. One thing leads to another, and here we are.”
